Plymouth
City Council Jobs
If you are planning to apply for a Plymouth
City Council job, you’ll have to fill out an application form.
CVs are not accepted. If you are searching the job adverts on
the council job vacancies page of the council’s website,
there’s no need to download the application form; it’s an
online process that works within your Internet Explorer or
Firefox browser.
But if you would rather a hard copy of the
application form, there should be a phone number at the bottom
of the advert to request one. Additionally there is contact
information on the right hand side to the webpage which
includes the email address for the council’s recruitment
department.
As I write this article, there are probably
people going through the application process, because there are
27 jobs posted. Some of them are part-time, some are term time,
some are fixed term and some are permanent.
To give you an idea of the types of jobs I’ll click on a few
posting and see what they are about. The first one is a
position for school crossing patrol. This post is permanent
term time, but it’s only five hours a week. It pays £7.04 to
£8.01 per hour.
Here’s another; this one for a passenger
assistant supervisor. It has a starting pay of between £17,802
and £20,198 annually. It is a permanent job of 37 hours per
week.
Let us look at another one. This one is for
a senior officer - trading standards and it seems to be paying
the highest starting salary of the 27 postings: £34,549 to
£38,961 annually. This is also a permanent position with 37
hours of work each week.
Hopefully, you are one of the people who
have seen these adverts. Hopefully you saw something that
interested you and you applied in time. You are probably aware
then that if you do not hear from the council within four
weeks, they did not consider you for the position. That does
not mean that you have to give up.
If you really want a Plymouth City Council
job, you should keep checking the adverts and applying. Even if
you have to apply for something that is not your first choice,
you may be able to get a foot in the door. Once in, you may be
able to manoeuver yourself into a position that is more to your
preference. It may take some time, but if it is something you
want; why not?
The council offers training opportunities
through its training and development scheme, which includes
professional and vocational training that leads to
qualification. Also include in this scheme is a sponsorship and
corporate appraisal.
But let’s say you manage to land a permanent
position with the council, you’ll have to complete a 6 month
probationary period. After that, you’ll receive confirmation
that you have permanent employment status. And once you’re in,
the benefits of working for the council are pretty attractive.
Like 25 days annual leave, which rises to 30 days after 5 years
of continued employment with the council. You can also take
advantage of flexi-time working. More information of the other
benefits of having a Plymouth City Council job can be found at
the council’s website.
