Newcastle
City Council Jobs
Have you ever considered perusing a Newcastle City Council job?
If you have a computer you can easily complete the online
application form. This is assuming you’ve already searched the
adverts and found something that interests you. Some posting
will have a link to the online application process within. The
disadvantage of using the online application is that it cannot
be saved and returned to later. This means you’ll need all your
pertinent info at hand. But perhaps the most convenient method
is to use the downloadable version and fill it out at your
leisure.
Once you’ve completed it you can send it in
by email or print it and send it by mail. In some cases it may
be an application pack that you’ll need to download. This will
contain all the documents needed to fill out your
application.
The council’s website says that new
vacancies are added every Thursday morning. This does not mean
that there will be new adverts every single Thursday, but it
means that is the best time to check, if you are interested in
working for the council but haven’t yet seen that posting that
you want.
As this article is being written, there are
29 job postings on the council’s website. This seems to
conflict with a BBC report earlier this year which stated that
about 500 Newcastle City Council jobs were lost. The report
also said that all political parties agree there will be much
less money to spend on public services. Indeed Newcastle is not
the only local government having to deal with tightening
budgets. It’s pretty much the same picture all over the UK.
Most, if not all, local governments say they
will do whatever they can to protect frontline services. But
the BBC article said there signs that things may not work out
that way. But evidently, councils are still able to do some
hiring. Any organisation with large numbers of job positions to
be filled, as city councils have, will inevitably have
vacancies in the midst in cutbacks. As long as those cuts are
not multiple slashes or deep down to the bone, because that
could mean the organisation is shrinking; perhaps
disappearing.
A large workforce means a greater chance of
people retiring, moving on to other pastures, being promoted
and so on. Those people will most often have to be replaced,
because the positions they held were not part of any cutbacks
that may have taken placed.
So, the bottom line is that anyone who wants
to work for a city council shouldn’t be discouraged by
cutbacks. Besides if and when the current global economic
crisis turns around, the job market will most likely improve as
governments take steps to stimulate growth and create jobs.
Perhaps you may be interested in training
that can lead to employment with the council. It can be another
way to get a foot in the door. Then you may want to take a look
at Newcastle Futures. The company has a partnership with
Newcastle Council, as well as several other stakeholders.
There’s no doubt the council hires some of the people who have
used the company’s services.
In addition, the council’s Training Section
can provide information about doing an apprenticeship that can
lead to a Newcastle City Council job.
